Twelve cyclists took part in the Re:source Bristol Bike ride on Saturday 24th April. This was an opportunity to explore the spiritual landscape of Britain’s first cycling city and pray with seven different churches along the 20 mile route.

The weather was beautiful, and every church we visited gave us a wonderful warm welcome, with more doughnuts than we could eat.

It was also very powerful to pray with each church, first for its specific circumstances, and then with a set prayer that ended 'Good news in the city, this is our prayer.'

Re:source Bristol is WEBA's initiative to encourage churches to form partnerships so that mission is possible where it's needed most. The bike ride took us from tiny churches on large estates, to leafy suburbs, to the vibrant and diverse inner city, seeing these places and people in a new way and drawing them together in prayer.

These are some reactions from the participants:

“I think it’s fantastic. You get fit at the same time as fellowshipping with people in a really environmentally friendly way.”
Elliott Warren, Totterdown Baptist Church

“This is a brilliant way of bringing home to people the need, and the blessing there could be”
Brian Mundy, Chalford Baptist Church

“It’s been good to learn a little bit about the shape of the city, and how it fits together.”
Steve Finamore, Principal of Bristol Baptist College

“It’s been interesting to visit the different churches, some of them I’d heard about…but I did need a bit of stamina to get up all the hills!”
Becca Finamore, Westbury-on-Trym Baptist Church

“We have learned that in Bristol, not only are there steep hills, there are steep spiritual hills to climb. I’m pleased to see that some of the churches we went to are in the forefront of the battle to win Bristol for our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”

Lionel Downer, Chalford Baptist Church
