West of England Baptist Association

As an act of fellowship in the West of England Baptist Association we invite you to pray for the churches and their leaders listed each week. We hope you will be able to pray for each church every day of the week. You may like to incorporate the following ideas in your prayers day by day.

Prayer for today - Monday

As the churches' weekday activities begin pray for all who lead, serve, and befriend those who come through our doors. Pray for any new initiatives being taken on by our churches at this time.

'Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all cicumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.' 1 Thes. 5 v 16-18

The Small Baptist

Ten years ago, Pete Smith, a Baptist Lay Preacher and then secretary at Stoke Gifford Baptist Church, wrote to the smallest churches in the Baptist Union - those with 5 members or less. He was concerned at the number of churches closing each year, and thought that these small churches were in a position to help by praying for one another. Thirteen churches began to pray in May 1998, using a little prayer bulletin outlining each of their particular needs. There are now 27 churches in this network. No longer does every church fulfill the criteria of 5 members or less, because some have grown!

Members have commented that they felt blessed knowing that people all over the country were praying for them; others said they were encouraged that their small, and apparently insignificant church could actually help other churches by praying. They were also encouraged by the realisation that they were not alone.

If you belong to a church with a membership in single figures, and you'd like to get involved, please contact Pete at PeterSmith3212@aol.com
