Appointment for three years from 1st April 2019

About the role

Applications are invited from suitably experienced candidates who would like to use such experience to support, in a voluntary capacity, the aims, values and ethos of the Bristol Baptist College.

As Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, you will be assisting the College Principal and through the provision of scrutiny of arrangements for risk and financial controls, strategic advice, and support through independent, constructive challenge. The Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee will also be a trustee of the College Council.

You will be a committed Christian. Our preference would be for this to be in a Baptist Church, but at the very least you will have a ready familiarity with the Baptist denomination and, of course, will be fully supportive of, and committed to the outworking of our vision and mission statement.

Key Skills

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following key skills:

Previous or current Board and Committee experience;

Senior level experience in a financial/risk environment, ideally with a background in risk assessment and control.

Time Commitment

The time commitment for this role would be expected to be up to 1 day per month. This includes attending at least three daytime Audit & Risk Committees per annum and four Council meetings. This time should allow for any additional meetings, such as with the external auditors, and for example, reading and preparation for meetings.

Length of Appointment

The appointment is for three years with the possibility of reappointment subject to evidence of effective performance and satisfying the skills and knowledge required at the time of reappointment and beyond.
