Let’s face it, for most people who don’t know Jesus yet, coming into a church for a Sunday morning service or going to a Christian event for the first time can be a bit weird. But what if their first experience over the threshold of a church or a Christian event was a fun night out? What if they could have a real laugh and get to know a little more about Jesus at the same time?

Tom Elliott from Minchinhampton Baptist Church in the Cotswolds has been giving people the opportunity to do just that. Once described by Miranda Hart as ‘Such Fun’, Tom has appeared on BBC TV & Radio. He tours throughout the year in comedy clubs, churches, theatres and festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe.

Tom’s warm personality, non-offensive approach to comedy and ability to share his faith have made him a popular booking and the subject of the article “Jesus is the funniest guy I know” in The Times recently.

Here’s what Nick Haig, Mission Chaplain at Lee Abbey Community in Devon had to say:

“Tom’s ability to make people laugh is fantastic. One guest at our Lee Abbey Discover Life weekend said that they had not laughed so much for a long time. I would thoroughly recommend Tom for a good humoured, clean, fun night for your community. And to top it all, his capacity to share faith in a simple and deeply meaningful way is wonderful. Book him!”

The theatre show has a subtle message about looking out for ‘wow moments’ in life and promotes a podcast that explores how to live life well (socially, physically, emotionally, vocationally, and spiritually!). Tom describes it as “low key, seeking to begin a broad conversation, rather than ‘reap’. Audience members who then follow my work, soon find out that for me, faith is a huge part of living life well”.

In a church setting Tom goes a little further, often including an interview after the show in which he shares his story of faith and encourages guests to spend time with those who believe, ask lots of questions and give faith a go. These events are ideal for people on the very fringe of church life and might be just the ticket to help them feel at home in the place or among the people where you gather.

Stuart Bell, Senior Pastor of Alive Church, Lincoln & Leader of Ground level Network:

“Tom is an excellent communicator. His clear and joyful presentations are highly inspirational. I witnessed this first-hand at our Christmas presentations and highly recommend him to you”.
